twilight au where rosalie keeps bella’s truck in the cullens’ garage after it dies and works on it in secret, being very sure to conceal her thoughts around edward so that it will be a total surprise. the chevy’s a wreck, and basically all that remains of the original vehicle is its faded-red, classic exterior, but rose thinks she’s done a good enough job at rebuilding the engine to give it another few years of life; something warm and familiar, something to help ease bella’s transition from human to vampire.
after bella wakes up from the change and things have quietened down with nessie, rosalie reveals her gift. bella is, as always, grateful edward can’t read her mind; she loves this rebuild even more than edward’s “after” car, although she appreciates the thought. she and rose take it for a spin, renesmee sitting upright (already!) on rosalie’s lap while bella drives.
with her enhanced senses, bella can hear just how truly loud the roar of the engine is, smell the gas sloshing around inside the truck’s ancient tank. she knows, now, that she’ll have to say goodbye soon, but she’s grateful to rosalie for the chance to give her baby a proper send-off. its death had been so sudden before. if her new body was capable of tearing up, she’s sure it would. not for the first time around rosalie, bella is speechless. she doesn’t know what to say, how to properly express her gratitude, but when she turns to face rosalie and sees the smile lighting up her perfect features, reaching all the way to her golden eyes, she knows she doesn’t have to say anything. rosalie already knows.
